PoemsFromHome is a program launched in July 2021 that seeks to connect multinational writing enthusiasts in the West with children from their countries of origin through poetry.

Members of the PoetsFromHome cohort will have the chance to write one poem about their culture of origin which will be sent to a high school student in their country of origin. The student will send a letter of response to the writer, commenting on their description of the culture and their own experiences. Accepted writers will have the option to continue to participate in PoemsFromHome in future months with the same student, triggering a more meaningful long-term dialogue about their culture.

At the end of each month, every poem, and its corresponding letter of response, written in that month will be showcased in our poetry magazine, which aims to tell the story of human connection through poetry.

PoemsFromHome cultivates long-lasting global cultural connections through the universality of poetry. Writers have the chance to learn more about their cultures from children who simultaneously become global citizens and passionate writers.

How it Works

1) Apply to write for PoemsFromHome

2) If you are accepted to the program, we will send you guidelines for drafting your poem

3) Once written and revised (with the help of an Editor), your poem will be sent to a high school student in your country of origin

4) Await your student’s letter of response

5) Become a published author in our poetry magazine!

6) Opt to continue the dialog with your student on a monthly basis

The Magazine

While the primary purpose of our initiative is to connect multinationals in the West with the children of their culture, a unique aspect of PoemsFromHome is that our participants become published authors in our monthly poetry magazine PoetsFromHome, which tells the story of human connection through the poems that come out of the program.
